The Professional Sewing Skills course offered by The Fashion Loop serves as an ideal progression for graduates of our Beginners Sewing Course. This course caters to individuals who:
- Possess sewing machine proficiency
- Are familiar with overlocking
- Have basic knowledge and experience of pressing techniques
- Hold intermediate-level sewing experience
- Seek to enhance their sewing and garment manufacturing skills for classic apparel
Our curriculum focuses on fabric treatment, cutting, and crafting classic garments like trousers, skirts, and dresses using size 12 garment patterns with essential technical elements. With a maximum class size of four students, ample space and personalized support are ensured.
During the course, you will:
- Learn fabric preparation techniques such as steaming, grain alignment and cutting of the fabric.
- Master the construction of flat-fronted trousers with fly fronts, pockets, waistbands, and hand-sewn hems along with application of interlinings.
- Explore various seam types including overlocked, top-stitched, and French seams
- Dive into the construction of pencil skirts with vents and linings, incorporating invisible zips, darts, and tailoring techniques
While trousers and skirts are the core projects, additional garments like shirts and dresses may be covered based on individual progress and confidence levels.
Students will work with selected commercial patterns, focusing on elevating garment production skills to meet professional standards. Customisation for different sizes is not included in this course.
Students are encouraged to bring their sewing machine.
The class size is restricted to 4 students to allow for each student to receive individual support.
